What is The Big Idea?

An idea. A book. A movement.

Jesus returns once Christians unite and fulfill the Great Commission. This is the Big Idea. I’ve written a book exploring the biblical evidence for this “Big Idea,” identifying the “Big Problem” of our division, and providing a “Big Plan” where Christians are called to unite with God, one another, and in mission and message toward the world!

A Poetic Introduction

What does the Bible say about this idea?

And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. (Mark 13:10)

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)

I in them and you in me, that [Christians] may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. (John 17:23)

Why this Matters Now

  • Christianity is divided into at least 45,000 denominations. (Study of Global Christianity at the Gorden-Conwell Theological Seminary report)
  • We can’t fulfill the Great Commission as long as we are divided. “Scripture teaches that our influence on the world is directly tied to the unity we display.” (Francis Chan, Until Unity)
  • “Some generation will succeed in finishing the task others have begun;” why not us today? (InterVarsity Press’ Commentary on Matthew 24:14)
